Guestline Rezlynx: Create a Product Rule

Product rules detail additional items or services that can be included within a Rate Plan, at an additional cost or the cost can be absorbed into the accommodation/table cost. When calculating and building a Rate Plan, the value of the products must be taken into account when entering the room price onto the Flex or Rate Table. When individual product rules are created they can be used for as many Rate Plans as required.

Create a product rule

⚠️ Important: Prior to creating a product rule ensure all of your products have been created.

To create a product rule, follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to System, System, Rates, and Product Rules.

  2. Select New Product Rule.

  3. Complete the following fields:

    • Code: A unique identifier upto 12 characters long. This cannot be changed after saving.

    • Description: A short summary of the product rule. This can be altered at any time.

    • Meal Plans: Assign a relevant meal plan (e.g. BB, DBB). These pull through numbers onto the meal plan report, so you can see how many rooms and people are expected on each meal plan. You can create a new one by selecting New Meal Plan Group in the bottom left of the screen, setting a unique Code and a Report Number.

  4. Select Expose to Upsell if you would like to expose this product rule as a standalone upsell containing more than one product, for addition to reservations within the Reservations' Upsell tab.

  5. Within Band 1 enter a start and end date range your product is valid for. Enter a description for the band, for example Breakfast 2025.

⚠️ Important: If your product rule has expired, and it attached to an active rate plan, the product value will not be posted.

  6. Select products to be included in the product rule from the drop-down menu and click Add.

  7. Select Custom if you wish to amend any of the following features of the product:

    • Charge mode - this should be set per room if selling the product rule and rate plan online.

    • Posting mode - any products being sold online must be selected for Day Of Arrival and Resident Days to sync online as expected.

    • Shift number & Shift allowance- if you have interfacing tills you can select a shift number and allowance that can be posted to the room.

    • Auto add - this should remain ticked to ensure the product is posted correctly within the system.

    • Absorb - if you wish to absorb the product value into your Rate or Flex Table, ensure this box is ticked. Un-ticked will add the product value on top of the accommodation value.

  8. Continue to Add products to the rule as required. There is no limit to the number of products but the same product cannot be added twice.

  9. Once all products have been added click Save.

Adding additional Bands

Additional Bands can be added to Product Rules to cover additional dates, this is often used for year on year price increases for example.

⚠️ Important: When using date banded product rules within rates you wish to use online, the rate rule must also be banded for the same dates and ranges, where supplements are used the same applies.

To add additional bands, follow the steps below:

  1. Within the Product Rule, select New Band.

  2. In the new band, enter a start and end date range your product is valid for. Enter a description for the band, for example Breakfast 2026.

⚠️ Important: Ensure the Band dates do not overlap or have any gaps otherwise products will not be charged correctly. If the rule has expired and is attached to an active rate plan, the products will not charge correctly.

  3. Select products to be included in the product rule from the drop-down menu and click Add.

  4. Use the Custom button to amend products, as discussed previously.

  5. Repeat steps 1-4 until all bands and products have been added.
