Rate Rules determined when a Rate Table or Flex Table will be available for and applies a specific conditions if required. You do not have to discount a tables' value, but if you are building a new rate plan a rate rule should be used to pull the accommodation cost into the rate plan. You can use the same rate rule for multiple rate plans if required.

Create a new Rate Rule

To create a new rate rule, follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to Rezlynx to System, Rates, and Rate Rules.

🤓 Tip: Existing Rate Rules will appear in the left-hand menu. Click on the arrows to see the rules within the group and click if you wish to edit an existing one.

  2. Click New Rate Rule.

  3. Enter a Rate Rule Code, which can only be 12 characters long including letters, numbers, and use underscores instead of spaces. This must be unique and cannot be changed once saved.

  4. Enter a Rate Rule Group to determine where this rate will be stored within the left-hand menu. This can only be letters, numbers, or underscores. This can be changed later.

  5. Enter a Description for internal use only and this can be changed later.

  6. Select the Rate Rule Type, you can select from:

    • Simple (No Bands): A Simple Rate Rule will not use Bands (e.g. Seasons), a Simple Rule will use the same rule for the Rate Plans’ Duration and not change how the Rule works, but it can still use a range of Parameters to affect how the Rate Plans’ are charged.

    • Advanced (Banded): An Advanced Rate Rule will use Bands (e.g. Seasons) this will allow the Rate Plans to use certain Parameters over certain set dates and also can be affected by Stay Lengths which will affect how the Rate Plans is charged depending on how long or short the guest may stay for. Using an Advanced Rule will also mean that different Rate Tables can be used for separate Bands if required. Adding banding is discussed later in this article.

📌 Note: Function options are only used for event rate plans not bedroom rate plans.

  7. Press Save.

  8. Select the Flex or Rate Table from the drop-down menu. Alternatively, select Not Set if you are not using a rate table and enter a Value.

  9. Parameters can be set to affect how the selected Rate Table value will be affected, including:

    • Do nothing else allows the rate rule to be created without applying any discounts to the Rate Table or Flex Table.

    • Discount percentage removes a specific percentage, which can be set per day, from the rate or flex table selected.

⚠️ Important: Do not add a minus to the front of the discount value, otherwise this will turn it into a positive value.

    • Discount flat removes a specific value, which can be set per day, from the rate or flex table selected.

⚠️ Important: Do not add a minus to the front of the discount value, otherwise this will turn it into a positive value.

    • Use a specific days rate from the table for all room types, for all days of the week.

    • Use Flat Rate (No rate table req'd) and enter the Value to be used for all room types for any days of the week, therefore no flex or rate table is required and will be ignored if added.

  10. Click Save. If you have selected Advanced (Banded) add the bands using the information below.

Advanced Rate Rule - Adding Bands

An Advanced Rate Rule will use Bands (e.g.

If you have selected an Advanced (Banded) parameter, follow the steps below to add banding:

  1. Select Change.

  2. Select the Start and End date for the Band.

⚠️ Important: If adding multiple bands the system will not allow overlapping bands, and if gaps are left a 0.00 accommodation rate would be used.

  3. Add the Rate Table from the drop down box or select Not Set and add a Value.

⚠️ Important: If you are using a flex table, it must be the same flex table for each band, as you can flex the price in the table and the bands could then be used to apply further discounts by day as required.

  4. Select any parameter you require (as listed and explained above).

⚠️ Important: If using a discount value, do not add a minus to the front of the discount value, otherwise this will turn it into a positive value.

  5. Click Save.

  6. Think about how many bands the rate rule will require, this could be yearly, or seasonal bands. Once you have decided, click New Band. The next Band is displayed at the bottom of the screen.

  7. Repeat steps 1 to 4 until all Bands have been added.

📌 Note: You can add bands to a rate rule at any time in the future to best suit your needs.
