This article helps you set up your Adyen payment terminal from delivery through to processing your first payment. Some steps include a link to more detailed instructions.

PED terminal set up

Step 1: Before you open the package

Payment terminals process sensitive card data, so you must verify that the terminal you received is the correct one, supplied by Adyen, and has not been tampered with.

Check that:

  • Using the track & trace link, track the order with the carrier to verify that they confirm having delivered the payment terminal.

  • The shipping box containing the terminal has not been opened and the tamper-evident security packing tape is intact.

  • The serial number (S/N) on the box is the same as the one provided.

Step 2: Unpack the terminal

When unpacking your terminal, follow the steps below:

  1. Open the box, take the terminal out of the box, and verify that the serial number (S/N) on the terminal is the same as the serial number on the box.

  2. Inspect the terminal for tampering. Check for missing screws, additional wires or labels, holes in the device, and anything inserted in or attached to any part of the terminal.

  3. Turn on the terminal: connect the terminal to a power supply. Let the battery charge for at least four hours while you continue with the next steps.

Step 3: Basic setup

To complete the basic setup of the PED terminal, follow the steps below:

  1. Press and hold the power button until the display turns on.

  2. On the Welcome screen, select your language.

  3. After selecting your language on the Welcome screen, select the arrow button.

  4. On the Setup Wi-Fi screen, select the + sign.

  5. Turn on the WLAN toggle.

  6. Select a Wi-Fi network from the list, or select the + sign and add the name (SSID) of the Wi-Fi network.

  7. Enter the Wi-Fi password.

  8. Select OK.

The terminal sets the network as the default automatically and connects to it.
You'll now see a Wi-Fi icon at the top of the display.

You can change the Wi-Fi connection settings at any time.

Step 4: Store screen and updates

Only complete this step if the PED displays the request.

On the select store screen, select your store and then select the tick button. If the store shown is not your store, use the edit button to change it.

If the store screen doesn't show, wait until the next synchronisation with the Adyen platform (on average, three hours) and try again.

The PED will run all required updates. Allow all updates to complete before proceeding to step 5.

Step 5: Start processing payments

When you have completed the steps above, you are then ready to process payments!
